What is cupping therapy?
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine, in which the therapist places special suction cups on the skin for a few minutes, causing an aspiration.
The Egyptians used cupping as a form of therapy as early as 1,550 BC. Suction cups are usually made of glass, bamboo, clay or silicone. During the treatment, the Athens Massage center uses glass suction cups.
How does it work
The massage therapist places a flammable substance inside the suction cup, such as alcohol, and sets it on fire. Once the fire is out, the suction cup is placed on the skin, and as the air inside it cools, a vacuum is created.
This causes our skin to rise and redden as the blood vessels dilate. The suction cup usually stays on the skin for a maximum of 3 minutes.

A common side effect is that the skin around the areas where the suction cup was used becomes irritated and shows a circular pattern. You may also have pain at the incision points.
