When should have a massage?

You can have a massage from 1 or 2 times a week or even 2 times a month, depending on the goal you want to achieve and the problem you are facing. For intense discomforts it is good to make an appointment once a week, while for milder or chronic discomforts such as stress or back pain, once a week to twice a month. It all depends on the size of the problem and how consistent you can be in the treatment you will follow. 

Remember that massage works cumulatively and to get immediate results you should be faithful to your appointments and not leave a long time between sessions to maintain your progress. More specifically for:

  • Fighting stress and reducing anxiety, in normal contexts, you can have a massage twice a month or every 15 days. While for periods of high pressure and stress, it is recommended to visit your therapist at least once or twice a week in order to see immediate results and improve your mental health.
  • For sports injuries or athletes in need of muscle relaxation, the ideal frequency that should have sports massage it's twice a week.
  • People with chronic muscle diseases or musculoskeletal problems, it is necessary to receive massage services more often. Usually the duration of the treatment is defined between 4 to 6 weeks and the visit is once a week, at your house ή στο στούντιο.
  • For muscle spasms and acute muscle pains, the treatment should be from 1 to 3 times a week over a period of three weeks, depending on the extent of the problem.

  • The head, when there is an injury or other factors including inflammation and swelling

When is massage prohibited?

There are certain contraindications that effectively prohibit one from receiving massage therapy. In some cases it can be completely forbidden to someone, while in others where there is a medical reason, the massage can only be done with permission from your doctor. In addition, when the problem is localized, the massage can be done normally with the exception of the points where it is not indicated. 

The reasons why massage can be banned altogether are:

  • Fever
  • Communicable diseases (Flu, cold, Covid-19)
  • Taking medication, drugs or alcohol
  • Post-operative patients
  • Skin diseases (inflammations, fungal infections, psoriasis, dermatitis – eczema, herpes, ringworm or ringworm)
  • Neuritis (ulnar, vestibular)
  • A sun burn
  • Risk of venous thrombosis
  • Hypertension
  • Osteoporosis

Local contraindications for which massage is prohibited
